PATIENT GUIDE

DAY BEFORE THE TEST/ One should:

1. Directly before the UDS examination, the Patient must provide the current:

  • result of a general urinalysis or urine culture test
  • full medical documentation of previous surgical operations (if available)
  • diary of micturition

2. In the evening of the day before the examination, the doctor may recommend the use of a glycerine suppository or enema.

STAGES OF / THE URODYNAMICS TEST

The test comprises of two phases:

  • Urethra flow (uroflowmetry) with urine retention evaluation after micturition. The test consists in the assessment of the urine collection phase by urinating into a special device called a uroflowmeter. The test is non-invasive and completely painless. It is performed when reporting a strong need to urinate.
  • Cystometry. The stage is an invasive part of the urodynamic test because it requires insertion of a thin catheter into the bladder. It is a type of test which assesses the relation between pressure and volume of the bladder during its filling. During the urodynamic examination, a thin catheter is inserted into the bladder, which serves to fill the bladder with saline and to record the pressure prevailing in the bladder. The very moment of catheter introduction is unpleasant and can cause discomfort. In addition, the pressure in the rectum is measured using a catheter inserted there. The function of the sphincter muscles is determined by surface electrodes. After filling the urinary bladder, urine is delivered to a special device (uroflowmeter), measuring the amount of urine passed, as well as the rate of its passing. During urination, the pressure in the bladder and in the abdominal cavity as well as sphincter activity are recorded. After a comprehensive analysis of all the results of the tests, the patient receives a result that contains recommendations regarding further therapeutic treatment.

Throughout the hospital's operation, measures are taken to improve the infrastructure of hospital facilities, equipping them with the latest medical equipment and devices, introducing new operating techniques, all in order to fulfil the Hospital Mission, which reads: "The good of the sick is the highest law"

January 2015 - the facility receives the Certificate of the "Hospital without pain". This certificate is a confirmation of the highest standards of post-operative pain relief.

In August 2015, as a result of implementation of systems based on the requirements of PN - EN ISO 9001: 2008 and PN - EN ISO 14001: 2004 standards and submission to a certification audit for compliance with the requirements of the above mentioned standards, the facility has received relevant certificates.

In November 2015, the Department of Oncology Urology was liquidated, and thus two sections were distinguished within the Urology Department, i.e.: Division I of the Urology Unit (located in building B) and Division II and III of the Urology Unit (located in building A).

In November 2015, the facility expanded its activity to provide health services in the field of occupational health services - on November 2, 2015, the Outpatient's Unit of Occupational Medicine was opened.

On the second floor of the newly built facility (In the middle of 2013, it was put into operation and opened to patients):

  • 46 bed Unit of Oncological Urology
  • service rooms for medical personnel
  • auxiliary rooms (unit kitchenette, soiled utility room, etc.)

It locates:

  • Unit of Oncological Urology

In order to implement point 2 of the tender announced on 15 September 2011, the cornerstone for the construction of a new facility functionally connected with the existing Hospital was laid.

MED Holding SA, in accordance with the requirements of the tender, established NZOZ (non-public health care institution), granted its statute and entered it on 3 August 2010 into the register of health care institutions run by the Silesian Province Governor as a Non-Public Health Care Institution Specialist Hospital of Prof. E. Michałowski, with the date of starting operations on September 1, 2010.

In 2000, the Hospital obtained the status of an Accredited Hospital - Certificate No. 2000/13.

On December 11, 1995, the Municipal Council of Katowice adopted Resolution No. XXI / 165/95 on the transformation of the public healthcare facility - Hospital No. 7, part of the Hospital Treatment Health Care Center in Katowice into an independent public health care institution "The Hospital of Prof. Michałowski in Katowice. "

At the beginning of the 1980s due to the need to carry out a major refurbishment of the Specialist Hospital No. 2 in Katowice on Warszawska 52, the wards functioning there had to be moved to another place - inter alia, the Urological Department and the First Chair and Clinic of Urology of the Silesian Medical Academy.

Around 1983, the construction was started - it was decided to adopt a three-storey building of the Infectious Diseases Ward for the needs of the Hospital and combine it with the newly built 5-storey building in such a way that they form one solid construction.

The single-profile Specialised Urological Hospital numbering 93 beds began its operation under the name of City Hospital No. 7 and was part of the Health Care Complex structure for the city of Katowice until 1992, and then as a result of the reorganisation it entered the structure of the Closed Medical Treatment Center in Katowice, where it operated until end of 1995.

Until the mid-1970s, the Department of Infectious Diseases of the Municipal Hospital No. 6 in Katowice operated there. Later, it was closed down due to that fact that Infectious Pavilion had been built in 1976 in Specialist Hospial in Chorzów.
